Hi, I’m Miss Alicia from Charlotte Mecklenburg Library, and I work in children’s services. And for this segment of rookie science, we are going to make slime and play with polymers.
Empty one fourth cup of white glue into your mixing bowl. Pour in one fourth cup of water. And stir. Next add your food coloring of your choice. Just about six drops. And stir again—mix that up. And let’s go ahead and add some liquid starch—one fourth cup of liquid starch. Let’s stir it up some more. You can see the consistency there—it’s all coming together. So how does it feel? It should feel gooey, slimy, and stretchy.
And by the way, did you know that glue is a liquid polymer? This means that the small molecules inside the glue are in strands, like in a chain. And when the liquid starch is added, it helps keep all the polymer strands together—that makes it slimy.
