Thank you for your interest in donating to support the MeckTech project. Please understand that donating a device or money has no impact on eligibility or waitlist status for you or others; MeckTech devices are distributed first-come, first-served to those on our waitlist who meet the eligibility requirements. See below for details about how to donate for MeckTech.
Please take the laptop and its charger to the Library location closest to you and tell the staff it is a donation for the MeckTech project; the staff will have a donation receipt form you can fill out together and you can keep for tax purposes. They will then send the device to our in-house refurbisher, who will fully wipe the device and remove all personal information from the hard drive before reimaging it with a free operating system and hardware so it can be distributed to a MeckTech recipient.
Laptop donation details:
- We are accepting donations of laptops only at this time (no desktops or tablets); the age of the device does not matter. If possible, please include the laptop’s charger when donating. We also welcome any spare laptop chargers donated without the computer.
- Once a donation has been given, it will be completely wiped and reimaged; we will not be able to return the device so please ensure that you have already copied any information from the device that you need to keep. Any unused parts or devices will be recycled appropriately.
- Donated devices cannot be specified for distribution to a specific MeckTech recipient; they will be used for the next person on the waitlist.
