Promote your child’s cognitive development by using descriptive words this week. For example, instead of saying, “Throw the ball,” say, “Throw the green ball high into the air.” Not only are you enriching your child’s vocabulary, you are also helping your child connect descriptive language to everyday objects.

Draw a Fish
Adults can draw a fish with scales onto a piece of paper. Use this abbreviated rainbow fish story to give you ideas.

Look for shiny pieces of fabric (or even tin foil and wax paper). Talk about how they are shiny/dull/reflective.
Be a maker!
Help your child design something out of tin foil and duct tape. Explain that one side of tin foil is shiny, and the other is dull. You can give them a design challenge like making something they can wear.
Play “I Spy”!
Go outside and play a game with your child. You can say things like “I spy a vibrant object that is purple.” and your child could answer with “that flower!” This helps your child with vocabulary development and recognition in a fun way.
