Part One

Hi, my name is Jana and I’m a Children’s staff member at the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library, and I’d like to share some songs and stories with you today, about food.

I’d like to do a song for you as we start off, called “You are my sunshine.”
Alright, if you know it, sing along:

“You are my sunshine, my only sunshine, you make me happy, when skies are gray. You’ll never know dear, how much I love you… Please don’t take, my sunshine away.”

Now we’re gonna do one more song and it’s called “The more we get together.” And it goes like this:

“The more we get together, together, together, the more we get together, the happier we’ll be.

Cause your friends are my friends and my friends are your friends. The more we get together, the happier we’ll be.”

Right, the second verse is: “The more we sing together.”

“The more we sing together, together, together, the more we sing together, the happier we’ll be.

Cause your friends are my friends and my friends are your friends. The more we sing together, the happier we’ll be.”

Alright, the last verse is: “The more we read together.” Ready?

“The more we read together, together, together, the more we read together, the happier we’ll be.

Cause your friends are my friends and my friends are your friends. The more we read together, the happier we’ll be.”

Are ya’ll ready to read a good book?

And now I’d like to share “Who ate all the Cookie Dough” by Karen Beaumont, illustrated by Eugene Yelchin.

Did you guess it, while we were reading? It’s one of the books with a surprise ending.

And that is “Who ate all the cookie dough?”

Part Two

The next book I’d like to share is about a little girl waiting for the pizza man to come and it’s called “Hi Pizza Man!” by Virginia Walter and the pictures are by Ponder Goembel.

Doesn’t Virginia have a smart Mom, to play that game, while they’re waiting on the pizza man to come? How many of you guys like pizza? I bet you do. Most everybody likes pizza.

So, I have a little song I’d like to sing for you, about pizza. And the first pizza we’re gonna sing about is pepperoni. Anybody like pepperoni pizza? This song goes like this:

“Oh, I wish I were a pepperoni pizza. That is what I’d truly like to be. For if I were a pepperoni pizza, everyone would be in love with me.”

Now this next kind of pizza is usually the favorite of kids. And it is… a cheese pizza. How many of you like cheese pizza? I bet you do. Well this is an extra cheesy pizza, so let’s sing about it:

“Oh, I wish I were an extra cheesy pizza. That is what I’d truly like to be. For, if I were an extra cheesy pizza, everyone would be in love with me.”

And our last pizza is my favorite. This is a veggie lover’s pizza. No meat, only vegetables. Let’s sing about this one:

“Oh, I wish I were a veggie lover’s pizza. That is what I’d truly like to be. For if I were a veggie lover’s pizza, everyone would be in love with me.”

Ooooh, I’m really hungry for pizza. Aren’t you guys? Uhmmm.

Part Three

The first book I’d like to share with you guys today is called “Groovy Joe, Ice Cream and Dinosaurs.” The author is Eric Litwin, who is also the author of all the “Pete the Cat” books that we love so much, and the illustrator is Tom Lichtenheld.

And one of the reasons I love this book so much is, Groovy Joe plays the guitar.

And I wouldn’t be surprised if we don’t see some more books about Groovy Jo from Eric Litwin.

Alright, you guys have been sitting for a few minutes, so why don’t you stand up wherever you are, and we’re gonna do a song called “The Freeze Dance.” And when the music stops, I want you to freeze.

Alright, you ready? Here we go:

“Hoppin-hoppin, hoppin- hoppin, hoppin-hoppin, stop.
Hoppin-hoppin, hoppin- hoppin, hoppin-hoppin, stop.
Hoppin-hoppin, hoppin- hoppin, hoppin-hoppin, stop.
Hoppin-hoppin, hoppin- hoppin, hoppin-hoppin, stop.

Tippy-toe, tippy-toe, tippy-toe, and stop.
Tippy-toe, tippy-toe, tippy-toe, and stop.
Tippy-toe, tippy-toe, tippy-toe, and stop.
Tippy-toe, tippy-toe, tippy-toe, and stop.

Hopping, hopping, on one foot, hoppin, hoppin, stop. Change feet.
Hopping, hopping on one foot, hoppin, hoppin, stop. Change feet.
Hopping, hopping on one foot, hoppin, hoppin, stop. Other foot.
Hopping, hopping on one foot, hoppin, hoppin, stop.

Turning, turning all around, turn around and stop. Go the other way.
Turning, turning all around, turn around and stop. Other way.
Turning, turning all around, turn around and stop. Other way.
Turning, turning all around, turn around and stop.

Dancing here, and dancing there, and dance and dance and stop.
Dancing, dancing, everywhere, dance and dance and stop.
Dancing here, dancing there, dance and dance and stop.
Dancing, dancing, everywhere, dance and dance and stop.
Dance and dance and stop.”

Nice job everybody!

Part Four

Anybody like to go on a picnic? We’re gonna go on a picnic today. There’s our picnic basket. Let’s see: “On a picnic we will go. On a picnic we will go. Let’s fill our basket up. On a picnic we will go.”

Now, we need something to put our food on, don’t we? Let’s take some plates. Yeah, let’s take some plates.

“We put some plates in. We put some plates in. Let’s fill our basket up. We put some plates in.”

Now, we need some food to put on our plates, don’t we? Let’s take some fruit. Fruit is healthy, and I’ll bet most of you like… apples. Let’s take some apples.

“We put some apples in. We put some apples in. Let’s fill our basket up. We put some apples in.”

Hey, I really like fruit. Let’s take some more fruit. Let’s take some… watermelon. You guys like watermelon? Yum!

“We put some watermelon in. We put some watermelon in. Let’s fill our basket up. We put some watermelon in.”

Alright, this next thing, hummm, not everybody likes these, but I love them. Do you guys like… pickles? We’re gonna take some pickles. How about that?

“We put some pickles in. We put some pickles in. Let’s fill our basket up. We put some pickles in.”

Alright, let’s see, what else would be good to go in our basket? I know, let’s take some fried chicken. Yum, yum!

“We put some chicken in. We put some chicken in. Let’s fill our basket up. We put some chicken in.”

Alright. Let’s see. I’m gettin kinda full, but let’s take a couple more things, alright?

Let’s take some… cheese. What if some mice show up at our picnic? We might need some cheese for them, huh?

“We put some cheese in. We put some cheese in. Let’s fill our basket up. We put some cheese in.”

You can’t have a good picnic without dessert, can you? What should we have for dessert boys and girls? Let’s see. Hey, I know. Everybody loves cupcakes, right? Sure. We’re gonna have cupcakes for dessert.

“We put some cupcakes in. We put some cupcakes in. Let’s fill our basket up. We put some cupcakes in.”

I’m getting really, really, hungry. How about you? You can’t shake your sillies out if you’re sitting down. So everybody stand up. Get ready, here we go:

“I’m gonna shake, shake, shake my sillies out; shake, shake, shake my sillies out; shake, shake, shake my sillies out and wiggle my waggles away.

“I’m gonna clap, clap, clap my crazies out; clap, clap, clap my crazies out; clap, clap, clap my crazies out and wiggle my waggles away.

“I’m gonna jump, jump, jump my jiggles out; jump, jump, jump my jiggles out; jump, jump, jump my jiggles out and wiggle my waggles away.

“I’m gonna yawn, yawn, yawn my sleepies out; yawn, yawn, yawn my sleepies out; yawn, yawn, yawn my sleepies out and wiggle my waggles away.

“I’m gonna shake, shake, shake my sillies out; shake, shake, shake my sillies out; shake, shake, shake my sillies out and wiggle my waggles away; and wiggle my waggles away.

Hope you got all those sillies out.

As we close today, I’d like to sing you the “Say Goodbye” song. Time to say goodbye:

“It’s time to say goodbye to all my friends. It’s time to say goodbye to all my friends. It’s time to say goodbye, give a smile, and wink your eye. Oh, it’s time to say goodbye to all my friends.”

“It’s time to wave goodbye to all my friends. It’s time to wave goodbye to all my friends. It’s time to wave goodbye, give a smile, and wink your eye. Oh, it’s time to wave goodbye to all my friends.”

I had a great time with you guys today. I hope you had fun too.
