Sing the Alphabet song (“Abc song”) with your child and play with plastic letters. Children learn the names of each letter while singing, letter shapes by drawing and playing with letters, and the sounds each make when they recite rhymes. The combination of all these strategies will help your child develop the basics of reading and writing.

Decorate and/or color a sheet of paper. Cut the paper into small strips of paper and crumble them up. Grab a drinking straw and place the strips of paper on the table. Use the straw to blow your art across the table.

Make a Balloon Rocket
Blow up a balloon, tape a straw to the bottom, and watch what happens when you let the balloon go.
Learn about air pressure.
Fill a 2-liter soda bottle half full of water. Take a long straw and insert it in the mouth. Wrap a lump of clay around the straw to form a seal. Blow hard into the straw. Your blowing increases the air pressure inside the sealed bottle. This higher pressure pushes on the water and forces it out the straw.
